I Want To Be A Crime Scene Investigator When Im Older?

Well Im Going Into My Jr Year In High School And I Will be Taking A Course Called "Police Law & Science" Science As In Forensics, And I Will Also Take Forensics In 12th As A Science Course. My Question is, Do I have to Become a Cop In Order To be One? I Just Want To gather The Evidence Up And Give It To The people Who Analyze the Evidence. I Also Plan On Doing This In New York City Since I Currently Live On Long Island Ny. Also What Classes Will They Most Likely Want Me To Major In, When I Go To Collage?
